Movie Review – Gangster Squad ***1/2

Set in the 1950’s is it a high voltage action flick where the LAPD designate a set of cops to put an end to the don and his empire. They are ruthless and give return the treatment back to the bad men in their own style.

Directed by Rubin Fleischer this one hell of an outing. Bullets fly in abundance and car chases are the order of the day. The styling of the movie is very reminiscent of Dick Tracy. For a period film the art, costumes and sets have to be perfect and the director gets it bang on. The star cast of Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling is awesome. With all this star power and having Sean Penn playing the don, what else do you need.

The film is fast and extremely stylish with lot of blood shed. If you are a die-hard action fan you will love every bit of it. I am convince you throw anything at Sean Penn from gay to gun he will show his class. Josh Brolin is tough nut to crack, Ryan is smooth as silk and Emma is sexy. Another small but effective performance is delivered by the veteran Nick Nolte.

Get a DVD/BR and enjoy it on the big screen of your home theater and yes don’t forge to up the volume a bit.
