Review: Netflix – Daredevil (Season 1)****1/2

This is the first time I am reviewing a TV series. Well it is also the first time that a streaming service like Netflix comes in India. Daredevil is a story of a blind lawyer going vigilante busting gad guys in the street of Hells’ Kitchen. Daredevil is one of the lesser known superheroes from Marvel Comics. It was adopted for cinema sometime back but did not do well at all. The big screen has other favourites like Spider man and the Avengers from the production house.

I must say I am very impressed by first the production quality and second the content of the series. There are no corners cut, this is as good as it gets. I am a big fan of Batman reboot with ‘The Dark Knight’ from my point of view the best superhero movie ever made and this season of Daredevil comes very close to it and this means a lot. The cast is a stellar with Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio doing some outstanding work. Charlie playing the lead make the superhero character feel more human and real. Like Batman, Daredevil is skilled but does not posses any superpower and that make things so much more interesting. On the other end of the spectrum Vincent makes Wilson Fisk look menacing but at the same time you can also feel his pain, his point of view towards life and why he is what he is.

Daredevil is dark, very dark with some of the best action sequences. It is also bloody to the extent it is not intended for small kids. Another positive for the show is its title and background music. What makes watching a Netflix series fun is that you can watch all episodes at one go and need not wait for the next week. You just need a quite weekend and love for the art called cinema.

I now eagerly wait for other streaming services like HBO and BBC One to come to India.
